Cultural Competency and English Language Learners Summer Institute & Mentoring Program for Early Childhood Teachers

This NJCCTP funded program is a 3-day Summer Institute held in the month of August. The institute is designed to enhance the thinking and practices of early childhood caregiver, in addition, to creating a culturally competent classroom that supports second language acquisition. The program infuses content, theory, practice, and simulations coupled with mentoring and coaching – the perfect formula for the achievement of ideal classroom settings!

Each participant will receive an assessment visit prior to the summer institute, followed by  three observation visits and three support visits after the summer institute has concluded. Participants will be assigned to a mentor/coach who will actively support the infusion of culture and ELL theory practices into the classroom. Lastly, each classroom will receive a tool box to assist the teachers in creating a culturally responsive classroom. – For more information call Ana Berdecia                (609) 777-4351         ext. 4290 or email aberdecia@tesc.edu.
